Personal kanban
To-do Doing Done
Personal Kanban is a simple productivity
system which is designed to give you a
simple, visual look at what’s on your plate. It
highlights at a glance what your upcoming
actions are, current priorities, and what
you’ve accomplished.
There are only two main rules; they are
Visualise Your Workload and Limit Your
Work In Progress (WIP). This helps to
minimise multi-tasking and thus avoid
overload.
Did you know? The popular productivity app Trello is built around the
personal Kanban approach.
Grab some sticky notes and start documenting some tasks you are
currently undertaking, as well as some that you are yet to start. Place them
somewhere visible in order of their stage of completion from left to right.
The real fun starts when you move tasks into ‘Done’, helping you feel a
sense of achievement and progress.
Outlook tasks
To-do’s have been available in Outlook for 20
years and provide a simple mechanism to create
actions (e.g. from meetings) and track their
completion.
To-do’s now also have their own dedicated app
as part of Office 365 and also a mobile app. Both
of which link to your existing Outlook tasks.
They are a great way to make sure you plan for
your daily, weekly and longer-term activity and
are enhanced with the ability to set reminders,
add attachments and set aside some of your
planned tasks to complete during your day,
